Guthlaxton College missed out on the trophy in the National under-19s table tennis team championship, despite beating the defending champions.
The team of Eddie Lyons, Adil Rashid, Aman Eashid and Jack Mooney beat Caldy Grange (Merseyside) 6-2, before winning 5-3 against Richard Collyer School (Horsham).
With just London Academy to overcome, the Leicester quartet, who all play for Knighton Park, were only one victory away from winning the trophy.
But the London team proved too strong for the Leicester boys, running out 7-1 winners.
Leicestershire’s veterans beat top-of-the-table rivals Yorkshire 6-4.
