The Dodgeball Survey 2022
We are inviting players, coaches, teachers, parents, volunteers and just about anybody else you can think of to fill out the Dodgeball Survey 2022! We want to hear from member clubs as well as clubs who are not yet registered with us, schools, colleges, universities, casual sessions run at youth clubs and by private businesses – anyone involved in playing or organising dodgeball at any level.
This will help us to better understand your views and how we can drive dodgeball forwards at all levels. If anyone under the age of 16 wishes to fill out the survey, they may only do so with the permission of their parent/guardian. The survey contains summaries of focus areas, projects and initiatives which may help you find out more about the work we are doing which may benefit you directly as a player or your organisation.
British Dodgeball is proud to support grassroots dodgeball across the UK. This sport has the ability to revolutionise the health of the UK’s young people in times that are difficult for health. The role of primary school physical education is more important than ever. Thousands of primary and secondary schools offer dodgeball to the delight of so many young girls and boys.
We have decided it is time to celebrate the hard work of schools with the British Dodgeball School Dodgeball Awards 2022.
Closing date for nominations: Monday 28th February 2022
Following the closing date a short list of primary schools and a short list of secondary schools will be created and opened to the public for them to vote for who they deem as the most deserving of each award.
The top 5 primary and secondary schools will receive a basic equipment set with the winners getting a large equipment set.
You must be a member of British Dodgeball to be able to win the School Dodgeball Awards. You can sign up for our free education membership via the website.
Secondary School Award – nomination form can be found here.

Marathon Month
The days are getting wetter, the nights are getting dark and the marking is piling up! It is difficult to find the motivation to exercise, so
why not take on the SLSSP Marathon Month challenge?
To mark the occasion of the London Marathon we are setting up a virtual Marathon Month. We will be challenging all staff in South Leicestershire to cover the total distance of 26.2 miles over the month of October. This can be done by running, swimming, walking or a combination of the three. If this is too easy, why not challenge yourself to cover the distance of 2, 3 or even 4 marathons?!
This could be for charity or a personal challenge.
Join the South Leicestershire School Staff STRAVA group for some added motivation! Click here!
Certificates to be awarded to all staff who participate. Participants will also be added to a prize draw to win Amazon vouchers!!

Resumption of Football
The FA has published its guidance on the resumption of football with effect from the permitted date of 29th March. You will find the detailed guidance here:
FA guidance for outdoor grassroots football return on 29 March 2021 (thefa.com)<https://www.thefa.com/news/2021/mar/24/fa-guidance-for-return-to-grassroots-football-20210324>
The guidance is written for clubs but applies to all football and you should read it carefully before planning your activity. In so doing, you will see that:
* Travel is permitted in order to play football, although you are advised not to travel at busy times or on busy routes. Whilst non-essential travel is to be avoided, it is permitted to travel to play. However, outside of the FA’s guidance, the DCMS guidance notes that overnight stays for the purpose of attending sports events is NOT permitted so please ensure you do not permit overnight stays before the guidance is reviewed on 12th April
* Parental consent is required for children to play football post-Covid. Parents are required to confirm they are content with your covid security arrangements and as such are permitting their child(ren) to take part. Please ensure you obtain these permissions before you play.
* You are required to complete a full risk assessment, including Covid-specific controls, prior to planning your events. You may find it helpful to share your covid risk assessment with parents in order to gain their consent for their children to play. You can find a template here
FA-Covid-19-Risk-Assessment-Guidance-and-Template.pdf (schoolsfootball.org)<https://schoolsfootball.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/FA-Covid-19-Risk-Assessment-Guidance-and-Template.pdf>
Please also look out for updates at each step of the lifting of lockdown restrictions, as the guidance may change at each review.

Online Safety and Wellbeing Webinar and Resources
Over the past few months children and young people have been spending more time online due to lockdown, apps like TikTok have boomed in popularity and children have levitated to the gaming world to keep in touch with their friends. The internet is an amazing resource but worryingly an increased time online has led children and young people to a greater risk of exploitation and concerns are growing around children’s wellbeing due to gaming and social media.
A free 1 hour long webinar is available on the 23rd March for schools and professionals across the county looking into online safety, COVID 19, wellbeing and how can we effectively safeguarding young people online. To book your place please follow the Eventbrite link.
There are also mini video clips available on YouTube aimed at parents and carers around keeping children safe online, schools and professionals can share the video clips with parents to promote online safety especially as young people and children come back to school.

Female Sports Pledge
A young person/sport leader in South Leicestershire has been doing some amazing work trying to raise the profile of female sport. The young person is working with an organisation called Totally Runnable. One of their objectives is about promoting women’s sport in the media. They are involved with SeeSportyBeSporty campaign. See this link – https://www.change.org/p/seesportybesporty.
The organisation also works with schools. They have created a Girls and Sport Pledge. We’d be grateful if you could take a look at it and consider whether your school would sign the pledge. The link is https://totallyrunable.us14.list-manage.com/subscribe?u=77d38880b05b8f9d5f02fa6bf&id=4d22ce2c81. Totally Runnable have role model posters that the school will get if you sign up. They have some local athletes going into several schools in Loughborough who have signed up to the pledge.
Two schools in South Leicestershire have signed up already.
